want to be involved? future fashion now runway and workshops

The below is from my beautiful friend Belinda's blog Simple Precious. She's a greenie/hippy :) and has a major hand in organising something amazing. The below is an extract from her blog. I will be partiticpating in the night as well. I urge you to come along or contact Belinda if you would like to have your wares showcased or you would like to pariticipate in some way.

I am so excited to share this with you! I am organising a sustainable fashion event to celebrate World Environment Day and am currently looking for more designers and vintage stores to get involved.

Future Fashion Now will be happening on Friday 3 June at the St Kilda Town Hall (Melbourne, Australia) from 4pm and will celebrate and showcase artisan-made, fair trade and vintage fashion. There will also be (free!) workshops to help people to develop skills to create their own fashion/homewares that will enable them to reduce their impact on the environment.

There will be a runway parade featuring local designers including
as well as local vintage stores including
Workshops will include
  • The Treasury by Emma Grace (jewellery fixing workshop)
  • Learn to knit workshop
  • Remaking your old clothing into new pieces
As part of Future Fashion Now there is a competition called I Made This! running right now, up until the week before the event. This competition is open to anyone who has made a fashion or homewares piece themselves. Entries will form a photo exhibition at the event and prizes will be awarded for the best pieces on the night. This competition is not open to professionals – so if you make these pieces for a living please don’t enter!

There will be two prizes for this competition – first and second place – to be judged by secret ballot at Future Fashion Now. We have some great prize donations for this competition, including a Craft Victoria membership, two KnitKnit hooded scarf knitting kits, a pair of Solmate recycled cotton socks from Dagmar Rousset, 2 yearly subscriptions to Peppermint Mag, two vouchers for Resource Rescue Craft Supplies and two short course vouchers for Centre for Adult Education.
Also up for grabs are some great door prizes (also donated) –  a $50 Monolog voucher, a $50 voucher to spend at Frock & Slacks and one for Passionfoods too.

There are more designers, vintage stores, prizes and workshops being added to this list every day (literally!). There will also be organic, vegetarian food and DJ Damian Laird will be putting on records all night.
Please contact me at simple.precious@gmail.com if you are interested in participating in the runway or want to donate a prize for the competition or giveaway. I will accept expressions of interest for the runway until Monday 18 April and for giveaways until Monday 16 May. I prefer Australian designers but I will accept expressions of interest from internationals too.

  1. oh my god you said the dirty H word. I would like to take this opportunity to mention that I DO practice hair removal, DON'T hug trees or wear hemp, and I wash every day.

Thanks for the plug! You forgot to mention that you are one of the stars of the event!
